IGNOU Exam Form 2026 – Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, practical answers to common questions about eligibility, fees, examination centres, payment, hall tickets and submitting the IGNOU exam form online.

Before you submit Check the latest official IGNOU notice for the current deadline, fees and examination-centre instructions.
Important: Examination dates, fees, centre availability and late-fee arrangements can change through official notifications. Verify the latest IGNOU update before making payment or submitting the form.
01

Eligibility & General Rules

Eligibility

You can apply when your course registration is valid and not time-barred, you have completed the minimum period of study required for your programme, and you meet the applicable requirements for the courses you are selecting. It is always a good idea to check the current programme instructions before submitting the form.

No. Admission or re-registration alone is not the complete examination-entry process. Eligible students need to submit the online examination form and pay the prescribed examination fee for the courses they want to appear in.

Where your registration remains valid and you are otherwise eligible, you may select eligible courses from different years or pending attempts in the same examination cycle. Check the date sheet carefully because two selected papers can sometimes fall on the same date.

Assignment submission is an important requirement for the relevant courses. Make sure your applicable assignments are submitted within the prescribed period and follow the current examination instructions for your programme before selecting courses.

02

Fee Structure & Submission Windows

Fees & Dates

The published fee structure lists ₹200 per theory course. For applicable practical and project components, the published structure is ₹300 per course up to 4 credits and ₹500 per course above 4 credits.

The usual pattern is 1 March to 31 March for the June TEE and 1 September to 30 September for the December TEE without late fee. IGNOU can revise or extend these dates through official notifications, so the current notice should always be checked.

IGNOU has used extended submission windows with a late fee in previous TEE cycles, including a ₹1,100 late fee. The exact late-fee window can change from one examination cycle to another, so check the latest official notice.

Generally, examination fees are not refundable or adjustable against another examination session or programme. Payment failures or excess-payment situations can have separate instructions, so keep your transaction details safely.

03

Examination Centres & Allotment

Exam Centres

Students can select an available examination centre through the examination-form portal, subject to the centres shown as open for that examination. The final allotment remains subject to IGNOU's examination-centre arrangements.

Examination-centre capacity is limited. A centre may disappear from the portal when it is full, unavailable or not activated for the relevant examination. Choose an available alternative shown by the portal.

Choose the centre carefully before final submission. IGNOU's published instructions generally do not entertain requests for changes after submission, except where the university issues specific instructions for an exceptional situation.

04

Payment, Control Number & Technical Issues

Payment

Do not make an immediate duplicate payment. First check the examination-form status and allow the transaction time to reconcile. Keep the bank reference and screenshots. If the payment remains unresolved, follow the official portal's instructions before the deadline.

After successful submission and payment, the portal should provide a confirmation or acknowledgement and a Control Number. Save the acknowledgement, payment proof and submitted-form details for future reference.

Review your programme, selected course codes, examination centre and every other detail shown in the final summary. Make sure the information is correct before paying because changes after submission may not be entertained.

05

Language Medium & Hall Ticket

Exam Day

For many non-language programmes, students may be permitted to answer in Hindi even when their registration or study material is in English. Language-specific programmes and course-specific instructions can be different, so follow the rules applicable to your programme.

IGNOU normally uploads the Hall Ticket shortly before the Term-End Examination. A commonly stated window is around 7 to 10 days before the examination, but students should rely on the latest official university update for the exact release.

The Hall Ticket normally contains examination-related information such as the allotted examination centre, roll or enrolment details and the subject-wise examination schedule. Carry the required Hall Ticket and IGNOU identity document to the exam.

First check your registration validity and whether you have completed the required study period. If an eligible course is still missing, contact the relevant IGNOU office or Regional Centre through official contact details rather than selecting an unrelated course.

Check the latest IGNOU notification immediately. A late-fee or extended window may sometimes be announced, but an extension is not guaranteed for every examination cycle.

No. Centre capacity and administrative arrangements can affect allotment. The final centre should be confirmed from your Hall Ticket or official examination communication.

No. Use the payment gateway provided inside the official IGNOU examination portal. Keep your payment receipt and submitted-form acknowledgement instead of relying on an unofficial agent or payment account.

Note: For official decisions about exam-form eligibility, payment, centre allotment, deadlines and other examination matters, the latest IGNOU notification and portal instructions should be treated as the final source.
