What is IGNOU Project Submission?

Understand the project journey before you start writing the final report.

IGNOU project submission is the formal process through which learners submit a completed project, dissertation, field-work journal, practicum or internship report, wherever such work is part of the programme structure. Depending on the programme, the process may include topic selection, proposal/synopsis approval, guide or supervisor approval, research or fieldwork, final report preparation, fee payment and final submission.

The exact procedure is not identical for every IGNOU programme. Some programmes require a formal approval proforma and guide details before research starts. Some use online project portals for final reports, while specific programmes or Regional Centres may prescribe physical submission.

The safest approach is to use this page as a practical checklist and then verify your own programme's project manual, Regional Centre instructions and the latest IGNOU announcement before submitting.

Stage 1 — Approval Topic → Synopsis → Guide/Supervisor → Approval proforma
Stage 2 — Project Work Research → Data collection → Analysis → Final report
Stage 3 — Submission Fee receipt → Online portal / Regional Centre → Acknowledgement
Stage 4 — Evaluation Viva-voce where applicable → Evaluation → Grade Card update

Step-by-Step Project Workflow

Follow the stages in sequence instead of jumping directly to the final report.

01
Synopsis Preparation Topic selection & synopsis
02
Guide Approval Supervisor & bio-data
03
Synopsis Approval RC / School / Faculty route
04
Research & Writing Data collection & report
05
Pay Project Fee TEE form process
06
Final Submission Online / Regional Centre
07
Viva & Grade Card Where applicable

Do not start with the final report

Where your programme requires proposal/synopsis approval, complete the prescribed approval stage before treating the project as ready for final submission.

Keep proof at every stage

Save approval copies, fee receipts, final PDFs and online/offline acknowledgement so you can refer back to your submission if a status issue occurs.

Mandatory Project Document Sequence

Use this as a master checklist. Programme-specific instructions can add, remove or reorder documents.

01

Cover / Title Page

Project Title, Student Name, Enrollment Number, Programme Code, Course Code, Regional Centre Code, Study Centre Code, Email and Mobile Number.

02

Approved Proposal / Synopsis Proforma

Original prescribed approval proforma with required evaluator/official signature and stamp, wherever applicable.

03

Approved Synopsis

Final approved synopsis or project proposal outline in the format prescribed for your programme.

04

Guide / Supervisor Bio-Data

Signed or attested bio-data/CV of the project guide when required, especially for external supervisors.

05

Originality / Authenticity Certificate

Required declaration/certificate signed by the student and guide with date, where prescribed.

06

Project Evaluation Fee Receipt

Receipt showing payment against the applicable project course code through the prescribed TEE fee process.

07

Main Body of the Report

  • Acknowledgments and Table of Contents
  • Introduction, Rationale and Objectives
  • Research Methodology and Hypothesis, where applicable
  • Data Analysis, Interpretation and Findings
  • Conclusions and Recommendations
  • References / Bibliography in the style required by your programme
  • Annexures such as questionnaires, raw data tables and consent forms, where applicable

Important: programme-specific document order applies

IGNOU's online project instructions require items such as the approved proposal proforma, synopsis, guide bio-data and originality certificate where applicable. Your own programme manual may specify a different order or additional pages.

IGNOU's 18 September 2026 notification states that the last date for online submission of Project/Internship/Practical course fees for December 2026 TEE is 30 November 2026. Eligible learners are advised to use their IGNOU Samarth Portal login.

Fee Payment Method

IGNOU's current project-upload instructions state that the project evaluation fee is submitted along with the Term-End Examination form. Keep the fee receipt and include it with the project report as instructed.

*The planning windows above are not a universal programme deadline. IGNOU may publish programme-specific dates, separate portal dates or extensions. Always verify the latest official notification before submission.

Submission Modes

Use the route specifically announced for your programme and current TEE session.

MODE 1 — ONLINE

Central Online Project Portal

IGNOU opens session-specific online project submission pages for eligible project/dissertation/internship/ practicum submissions.

  • Compile the final report into the required PDF structure.
  • Keep the approved proposal/synopsis, certificates and fee receipt as required.
  • Scan pages upright, clear, readable and in the correct order.
  • Stay within the file-size limit shown on the active portal.
  • Save the digital acknowledgement/reference ID after successful submission.
MODE 2 — OFFLINE

Regional Centre / Physical Submission

Some programmes or specific Regional Centres may prescribe physical submission. Follow the exact address, copy count, binding and supporting-document instructions issued for your programme.

  • Submit directly at the designated Regional Centre counter when instructed.
  • Where the official notice permits postal submission, use the exact address stated there.
  • Keep postal proof or a signed/stamped counter receipt.
  • Retain a full digital/photocopy backup of the submitted report.

Do not send the project through personal email unless the active IGNOU notice specifically instructs you to

IGNOU's online project instructions have stated that reports received through email are not considered for evaluation when a dedicated online/physical submission route is prescribed.

Critical Checkpoints to Avoid Submission Problems

Most avoidable issues happen before the PDF is uploaded.

A

Approved Topic / Proposal

Where your programme requires formal proposal or synopsis approval, complete that stage before final project submission.

B

Original Academic Work

Follow your programme's originality and plagiarism requirements. Do not rely on one universal similarity percentage for every programme.

C

Keep Projects Separate

Do not mix project/dissertation files with normal TEE assignment submissions. Use the project-specific route.

D

Fee Receipt

Check the correct project course code and preserve the official payment receipt.

E

Viva Where Applicable

If your programme includes a viva, follow the Regional Centre's schedule and instructions.

F

Final Proof

Keep the final file, approvals, payment proof and acknowledgement until your project status is confirmed.

60-Second Final Check

Correct programme · Correct course code · Approved synopsis where applicable · Complete certificates · Fee receipt · Readable PDF · Correct submission route · Saved acknowledgement.

IGNOU Project Submission – Frequently Asked Questions

Click a question to open the answer. Answers are written around common IGNOU project workflows and current official instructions.

Synopsis & Topic Approval

No. Where your programme requires prior proposal/synopsis approval, that approval should be completed before the final project report is submitted. Official IGNOU project instructions also require the approved proposal proforma, synopsis and other supporting documents where applicable.

The eligibility of a project guide is programme-specific. Depending on the rules, the guide may be an approved academic counsellor/faculty member or an external professional/academic meeting the programme's qualification and experience requirements.

When an external guide is permitted, the programme may require the guide's detailed bio-data/CV and formal approval. Check the exact guide-eligibility clause in your programme manual before attaching a supervisor.

The route depends on your programme. The synopsis/approval proforma can be routed through the concerned Regional Centre, School/Faculty or programme-specific authority. Use the current project manual or notification for the exact submission method, email ID or physical address.

Project Evaluation Fees & Payment

Yes. IGNOU's current project-upload instructions state that the Project Evaluation Fee applicable from the January 2023 admission cycle is:

  • Up to 4 credit project work: ₹300 per course
  • Above 4 credit project work: ₹500 per course

IGNOU's project instructions state that the project evaluation fee is submitted along with the Term-End Examination form. The fee receipt should be retained and submitted with the project report through the prescribed route.

For December 2026, IGNOU's current notification says eligible learners should submit the Project/Internship/Practical fee through their IGNOU Samarth Portal login by 30 November 2026.

Deadlines & Submission Modes

Many students plan around the June and December TEE cycles, but project report deadlines are not universal across every programme. A common planning reference is March–April for June TEE and September–October for December TEE, with extensions sometimes announced later.

Always use the active IGNOU notification for your programme and session instead of treating these planning windows as guaranteed deadlines.

Yes, IGNOU opens online project submission pages for eligible project/dissertation/fieldwork/internship/practicum reports for particular TEE sessions. The exact eligible programmes and dates are announced by the University.

  • Where the portal requires it, compile the complete project into one single PDF.
  • Include the required cover page, approved proposal/synopsis, certificates, fee receipt and report pages.
  • Pages should be upright, clear, legible and correctly sequenced.
  • Keep the file within the size limit displayed on the active portal.
  • Do not assume personal email is a valid submission route when a dedicated portal is prescribed.

Do not treat a project report like a regular assignment. Where physical submission is prescribed, follow the programme/Regional Centre instructions for the designated submission point. In some cases the report is handled at the Regional Centre, while other programme-specific instructions can prescribe another official route.

Viva-Voce, Evaluation & Results

No. Viva requirements are programme/course specific. Some professional and project-heavy programmes include viva-voce, while other project courses may not. Check the programme guide and Regional Centre instructions for your course.

The concerned Faculty/Regional Centre arranges viva-voce where it is part of the applicable guidelines. The format can be offline or online depending on the programme and Regional Centre instructions. Follow the schedule communicated by the concerned authority rather than assuming a fixed time period.

Project marks are processed separately from a normal theory-paper result and may appear after evaluation/viva processing. The exact timing varies. Check the official Grade Card portal and your Regional Centre if the project component remains pending after the expected processing period.

The next step depends on the reason for the rejection or non-completion and the rules of your programme. Follow the instructions provided by the concerned Regional Centre/School, correct the required issues and submit again in the next permitted cycle where resubmission is allowed. A fresh applicable project fee may also be required according to the current process.
